United Neighborhood Organization - Housing Fire Suppression Consulting

MEPIS was retained by United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) for the assessment and initiation of the fire alarm system inside the St. Scholastica building to facilitate their conversion into a charter school. This Catholic school and monastery complex was built in four phases: 1906, 1926, 1958 and 1980. MEPIS conducted field surveys of the buildings and provided a field report outlining our findings.  Recommendations were discussed over the course of several formal meetings.

The buildings and their commissioned equipment are as follows: (1) Infirmary—Fire alarm control panel (FACP) with two active zones, not centrally monitored. Smoke detectors with horns located in corridor. Pull stations located at exits. No Fire Protection system. (2) Monastery—FACP with two active zones, not centrally monitored. CO detectors in 2nd through 4th floor corridors; smoke detectors with horns sporadically provided in basement; heat detector in elevator room. Pull stations located at exits. No Fire Protection system except for kitchen Ansul suppression. (3) 1926 School—Alarms connected to 1958 School building with annunciator panel in lobby, with city tie. A/V devices are provided throughout with CO detectors in center of each main corridor, with some smoke or heat detectors throughout. Pull stations located at exits. Fire hose cabinet equipped on every floor except basement in lieu of fire sprinklers. (4) 1958 School—FACP with city tie monitoring. A/V devices provided throughout with a few heat detectors. Pull stations near exits on every floor. Automatic sprinkler system in select areas, with fire hose cabinet on every floor.
