MEPIS was commissioned by UIC for the renovation of a space known as “Engineering Makerspace” for student prototyping. In addition to the renovation work, there are two additional task items within this scope: (1) replace and upgrade the existing air handling unit, sized to accommodate the entirety of the first and second floor, (2) replacement of the sidewalk and associated building-attached lighting that is adjacent to the interior space within our scope of work. MEPIS surveyed and documented the Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems within the project area. Architecture scope included confirming information and requirements provided by facility, design of spatial changes to meet project requirements, coordination with other professional disciplines, and design for sidewalk replacement. The Mechanical scope consisted of reviewing project requirements to size air handling unit, design for new air handling unit, new return fan, temperature control, and HVAC ductwork to accommodate spatial changes. Electrical scope included design modifications for electrical service for the new equipment, branch lighting and power for altered or new equipment, raceways, and outlets. Plumbing design was made up of design modifications for sprinkler head layout and fire alarm systems as needed for space changes. MEPIS also provided Cost estimating for SD, DD, and 75% Construction Documents.
