Northwestern University - Tech Building E, N, & K Wings Airflow Reduction

Northwestern University Technological Institute is located at 2145 Sheridan Rd, in Evanston.  The “Tech” building is comprised of (3) floors plus a basement and split into several wings.  The Tech building houses many of the technology programs of the campus including Chemistry, Engineering, and Biotechnology.  The building also is home to the facilities engineering offices which are located in the basement level.

MEPIS surveyed the existing conditions in order to quantify the number of new Phoenix air valves and associated controls, as well as, verify existing as-builds of the duct work. The electrical team documented the existing J-Wing standby distribution, verified existing as-builds, and determined the best source of power for the new mechanical equipment. MEPIS prepared permit/construction documents for Phase 1, which included K & N wings and Phase 2 included E-wing. All the labs in the area of work were designed to transition from a constant volume system to a variable volume system. Modification to existing ductwork and fume hoods were evaluated for each lab and typical details were developed for patching existing fume hoods bypass and installation of the new Phoenix air valves.
