Rush University Medical Center: Armour Academic Center 4th & 5th Floor

MEPIS was commissioned to provide the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Low Voltage (MEP/FP/LV) system designs for the renovation of space inside of RUMC’s Armour Academic Facility. The project site is located on the 4th and 5th floors of the Armour Academic Center. The scope approximately 2,300 GSF of structural infill, buildout, and included demolition and reconstruction of approximately 8,400 GSF of private offices and conference rooms. The result is 10,700 GSF of new active learning classrooms and supporting spaces.  Program components included a new IDF closet to support Audio/Visual services, electrical and data infrastructure to support the reconfigurable classroom, as well as plumbing, fire protection and mechanical rework for the structural infill and reconfigured spaces. As with any construction project in an occupied facility, active spaces needed to be maintained with no interruption to service in order to continue serving existing spaces. In addition, the renovation includes raising the ceiling for the 4th and 5th floors which requires raising of existing MEP/FP/LV systems. Expansion and modifications of MEP/FP utilities were required to accommodate the new occupancies and conform to modern practices.
