University of Chicago Medicine - Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital Cancer Center Renovation

MEPIS has been commissioned for the renovation of an existing 430,000 GSF hospital. The building will have a new lobby and ICU unit, and its 2nd-6th floors will be renovated to accommodate single-bed patient rooms for cancer patients. Along with the spatial renovations, MEP/FP systems (including IT) are being upgraded to both accommodate the space changes and to bring the systems up to modern standard. All work is required to be phased so that one half of the building remains active at all times, with major systems upgrades being performed as “enabling projects” ahead of the building’s renovation.

Major MEP work is slated to include the following: Replacement of 2-3 of the building’s 7 electrical unit substations; installation of 4 new AHU’s; upgrades of major dom. water systems; replacement of the existing generator sets and emergency distribution system; replacement of existing ductwork, piping, electrical distribution, branch distributions, etc. as necessary; new IT systems with UPS.
