MEPIS was commissioned by Northwestern University to provide construction management of the replacement of over 600 light pole fixtures across the entirety of their Evanston Campus. MEPIS was charged with the responsibilities of hiring and managing the electrical contractor and lighting vendors throughout the process. The replacement includes replacement of heads for existing shoebox (pathway and roadway) heads, replacement of acorn heads on new pole bases, and replacement of older acorns with the new style. All site lighting is changed from metal halide to LED. In addition, all lights within scope were to be divorced from existing lighting controls—e.g. standard timeclock and photocell with lighting contactor in order to be controlled by new cellular controls to be installed as part of this project.
MEPIS surveyed and documented the existing pole layouts to verify the accuracy of existing site drawings and using field-verified corrections, ordered the fixtures. Upon delivery, MEPIS oversaw their installation by the electrical contractor. All work had been phased out by campus zone, making adjustments as necessary to accommodate actual fixture delivery schedules and to minimize disruption to the campus between this project and other ongoing work performed by others.
