MEPIS was commissioned by Lamar Johnson Corporative to provide MEP/FP engineering services for a 76,605 GSF existing building with addition. The existing building was once an elementary school, to be converted into an office and corporate center building with future medical office and machine shop. Engineering scope of work included HVAC systems, electrical power distribution, branch outlets, lighting systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection.

The building required additional design scope to meet Chicago’s Sustainability requirements. Additional challenges for the building design included the requirements for new incoming services for electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems (where source locations differed from existing), and limited attic space to provide new air handling units. Additional challenges were present in the design of the new addition for new lobby space, which required accommodations for lighting and heating.
