Illinois State University - Science Lab

MEPIS was commissioned by Harley Ellis Devereaux to provide MEP/FP Design Engineering for the Science Lab Building Basement Laboratories at Illinois State University. The project involved making upgrades to the basement space to develop this space for research labs and teaching labs. MEPIS provided preliminary design of the new spaces and the evaluation of the existing systems. The mechanical scope consisted of review of test and balance reports, survey and document the existing HVAC systems serving the area, developing basic conceptual design for new air handling units and fume hoods for new laboratories, basic design for additional ancillary systems required for HVAC systems. Electrical scope included basic conceptual design modifications of interior building lighting and controls, modifications of a fire alarm system, modifications of branch circuiting for equipment, appliances, and wiring devices, modifications of raceways for telecommunications, A/V, and security cabling and equipment as necessary for the new laboratories. The Plumbing scope consisted of basic conceptual design modifications of sanitary, waste, vent systems, domestic cold/hot water system, and if necessary, the acid waste and pure water system. Fire Protection included basic conceptual design modifications to existing sprinkler zones and layouts.
