MEPIS was commissioned by the University of Chicago Medicine for a three-phase renovation/remodel project. The size of this project is approximately 6,973 S.F. combined with a mix of offices, workspaces, labs, and conference rooms. MEPIS will provide Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Design Engineering. Architecture scope of work consisted of reviewing UCM’s standards, design for new partition walls, door layouts, ceiling plan, finish schedule, and provide life safety plans as needed. Mechanical scope included survey and documenting the existing mechanical systems within the project area, review UCM provided test and balance reports, evaluating existing system capacity and ability to service renovated spaces and indicate Chicago code ventilation requirements on plan, design modifications of ventilation (supply, return, exhaust) as required for new layouts, including relocation of diffusers, modifications of temperature control systems. Electrical scope was made up of design modifications of interior building lighting and controls, branch circuiting for equipment, appliances, wiring devices, raceways for telecommunications, A/V, fire alarm, security cabling, and equipment as required. Plumbing scope included documentation and design of demolition of abandoned piping and plumbing systems. Fire Protection consisted of design modifications to existing sprinkler zones and layouts.
