MEPIS was commissioned by Morris Architects Planners for the renovation of the Ace Tech Court Theater for the University of Chicago. MEPIS provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Lighting, and Telecommunications Design Engineering Services. Mechanical scope consisted of modifications of local supply, return/exhaust ductwork, temperature control systems, HVAC zones as required, and building BAS system. Electrical scope included design modifications to the existing electrical distribution system, interior building lighting power/controls, branch panel feeders, branch circuiting for equipment, appliances, wiring devices, raceways for telecommunications and other low voltage devices, and fire alarm system within scope of work. Lighting scope was made up of design of basic types (e.g., industrial, 2X2 or 2X4 “typical” fixtures), and photometric calculations to confirm adherence to IESNA recommendations for light levels. Telecommunications scope consisted of design modifications of risers, backbones, telecom closets, distribution to outlets, service entrance for data/telephone circuits. cable try, rack, cabinet layouts, elevation details, coordinated intrusion detection, CCTV, and card access systems.
