Northwestern University Goodrich Hall Renovation

MEPIS was retained by Northwestern University, thru Weese Langley Weese Architects to provide complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for the full renovation of this 14,000 GSF, 4-story plus basement campus dormitory on the Northwestern Campus. The project involved the complete demolition of the basement level as well as selective demolition throughout the remainder of the building. A new faculty apartment was constructed along with new ADA accessible units as well as a common area addition.  The student residential rooms on floors two, three and four received major upgrades to the HVAC system, electrical and low voltage systems as well as revised fire protection. MEPIS performed a comprehensive field survey of all MEP/FP systems within the property and generated detailed demolition drawings. New system design was thoroughly discussed with Northwestern Facilities with multiple options being reviewed. Design elements included a new (larger) electrical service and distribution, new steam to hot water heating system, a chilled water loop along with new corridor make-up air, and completely new domestic water and plumbing systems. Many of the system concepts developed on this project are being used on new project renovations throughout the campus.
