PACE Station Design-Build

This project was commissioned by the Village of Bridgeview and PACE Suburban Bus to design a new bus station at Toyota Park. This $2 Million project facility contains an outdoor waiting area alongside native flora, an enclosed area heated for colder months, and a utility area with driver’s restroom. As the station is likely to become a hub for the PACE bus systems in the southwest suburbs, the desire is for this bus station to be a capstone piece for the area.

A key design feature of this bus station is the intricate lighting system which covers about 15% of the entire construction budget. The perimeter façade is covered with polycarbonate panels all around for red cold-cathode lighting, while the ceiling below is fully covered with white cold-cathode lighting. The lighting will also be optionally controlled to synch in desired patterns for bus arrivals, Chicago Fire games, concerts, and more. This design—sought to balance an advanced aesthetic appeal along with energy effectiveness and reduced maintenance—is a complicated effort that brings in the support of Architects, Interior Designers, electrical Engineers, and product vendors in order to bring the design to fruition
