SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

MEPIS is seeking experienced professionals to work in our Mechanical Department. This position will perform work predominantly in Healthcare and Higher Education. Other markets such as Institutional, Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Government, Hospitality and K-12 facilities will be expected to work on as well and will require the initiative to take the actions needed with minimal supervision. As MEPIS candidate, responsibilities will be broader than in most similar positions, so an ideal applicant will be able to handle a variety of tasks without being pigeonholed into one small segment of the field. We feel this position will be attractive to someone looking for a position of leadership and the ability to grow in competency in more aspects of the field doing work in more complex facilities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to work closely with MEPIS clients (both internal and external) on various size projects.  You will be expected to deliver high quality, high-profile, and projects to our clients. You will also actively participate in the full project cycle, from the pre-programming phase through final construction and close-out.  Duties will include, but not be limited to, design, drawing production, specification writing, coordination between the various disciplines, shop drawing and submittal reviews, RFI’s, construction site reviews, and code reviews.  Although the position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be expected to work closely with our Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection engineer to help in this discipline at all levels. Your project responsibilities shall include the following:

  • Project Management – including scope, scheduling and budgeting
  • Modeling and Analysis of all aspects of the mechanical systems
  • Provide Technical Leadership to MEPIS Staff
  • Review of Mechanical systems designed by others, interface with code official and contractors, working with Architects and Clients
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to Architects, Contractors and building Owners
  • Development of initial mechanical system concepts
  • Design of mechanical systems
  • Calculations of preliminary HVAC systems
  • Develop project specification
  • Survey and evaluation of existing conditions
  • Construction Administration
  • Attend project meetings with clients, contractors, and product vendors as needed
  • Attend pre-bid walkthroughs for project opportunities
  • Assist in generating proposals and related marketing materials for project opportunities with significant mechanical scope
  • Software Proficiencies Required
  • Recent AutoCAD (2010 and beyond) required
  • Microsoft Office Suite Programs required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • REVIT experience
  • Will consider additional industry software proficiency where relevant

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design & analysis of building systems and campuses
  • PE license (strongly preferred)
  • Experienced with the Chicago Building Code mandatory
